The Calm Before the Book Storm
My long-awaited second collection of short fiction will see the light of day soon!
My first collection came out in 2015, which I now realise is officially “a long time ago”. Sometimes I compare myself to other writers who managed to write multiple books in that period. They’ve launched careers and made names for themselves within the horror community.
I wrote one book and then had a couple of kids.
The fact that I haven’t been able to publish a new book in eight years doesn’t diminish my worth as a writer. I am a slow writer. I have very little drive to finish a project unless it gives me some kind of joy along the way. A distraction from reality. Writing’s always been more a coping mechanism for me than anything.
I haven’t been posting here as much because my family’s been dealing with a few stressful changes. I’ve been giving myself some time to be more present in the matter, but I have been putting a lot of my stress into my current WIP. It’s a slow-burn project that I’m currently using as a crutch to get me through.
I do, however, finally get to break the spell of not having a book in the world very, very soon, as ENDING IN ASHES finally drops on August 13th! Here’s a little teaser full of praise that I greatly needed today from EIC,
.Quill & Crow Publishing House also has Ending in Ashes featured all month in their for their poetry prompts, so if you’d like to take a stab at writing some gothic poems, you can use the #crowcalls hashtag and share your poems by tagging them in your socials on Instagram, TikTok, Threads or Xitter(?).
Despite all the stresses of life, I’m so excited to have this book release as a bit of a distraction from reality. I really hope you all buy yourself a copy and give the stories a read.
I’ve been so humbled by the lovely early reviews on Goodreads as well. Over the coming months, I’m hoping to share some behind-the-scenes details about the stories and the characters and all the things that inspired them. I’ve got some podcast interviews scheduled for the near future as well.
It’s just going to be really great to get back out there with a new book. Indie publishing has changed so much since I had my kids and I’m stoked to see what it all has in store for me now.
Congratulations! I'm a slow writer and also have two kids. The juggle is challenging. I hope you enjoy the launch!
I can’t wait to receive it! Also, I’ve been calling it the app formerly known as Twitter. 🤷🏻♀️
