R, I love this. The way Columbine hit you is so fascinating. I am exactly the same age as the Columbine kids (I graduated from high school in 1999) and remember the horror and confusion of that time. late 90s'sand early 2k teen Christianity was so weird - I remember the WWJD bracelets and "I kissed dating goodbye" & burning your "secular music" for God and how Columbine was used as evangelical propaganda. I wonder if it's still so intense.

man, i lost a friend because i judged her for having sex with her boyfriend because of that fuckass “i kissed dating goodbye book” that shit is a post on its own. thankfully i never was convinced to burn my secular music, though the youth room in my church had a bunch of those “if you listen to this, try these christian bands instead” kind of posters. i like to think that christian teen life isn’t as cringe these days… either they spend time in the secualar world like i did or their parents do the home school route. my church doesn’t have a lot of teens in it.

not to mention how gun violence has evolved over the last handful of decades, like it’s more politicized than a common sense thing. i recently watched this hbo doc called “thoughts and prayers” and there are like actual school shooting simulations you can take part in like it’s some kind of columbine cosplay shit, america is a trip, man.
